about

This song was written while I was sitting in an orange butterfly chair from my 12th floor apartment overlooking south Philly on a warm summer night.
As the lyrics unfolded from a darker cynical perspective, questioning my own state of mind as well as some of the existential moments within relationships and the surrounding environment one can find themselves in, the music and melodies that were evolving also had a more happier and uplifting tone. My thinking was that the juxtaposition of these elements would balance out in the context of the song.
I pulled an all nighter 4 tracking the demo from that very orange butterfly chair as an orange morning sun emerged from the shadows of center city Philadelphia.

The basic tracks of this tune were recorded at Avast Recording while I was in Seattle a few months later.
I was also working with Mark Lewis in NYC who was instrumental in helping me get to the finish line with extra vocal takes and providing the bass tracks as well as the final mix.

A big thank you goes out to Andy Lucia who wrapped up the outro with some sweet Lap Steel guitar.

Cheers to Eric Ryan for additional atmospheric soundscapes.

I hope you enjoy the tune!

lyrics

ORANGE BUTTERFLY CHAIR

Orange butterfly chair open just for me
while the city finds no sleep
Open full moon alway finds my stare
even though I wanna be...somewhere else

Try not to hate myself and what I've become
redefine the meaning
Don't want to be bitter, find it hard to relate
when everything around me is full of hate

I guess I'll try- and smile for you, smile for me
Smile for you-

Why am I still here in this wretched state of mine?
Live for the questions I still can't find
Wish that something good could come from this
love that we're feeling, the love that we're feeling...

I guess I'll try-and smile for you, smile for me
Smile for you, smile for me (x2)
